Drishyam: The Conclusion Sets New Opening-Day Record for Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion has posted an estimated Rs 95.10 crore gross worldwide on its opening day, according to Sacnilk figures, making it the biggest single-day start of the actor's career. The Abhishek Pathak-directed thriller collected Rs 66.75 crore net in India from 15,759 shows, with its domestic gross at Rs 80.10 crore and overseas markets adding roughly Rs 15 crore. The numbers place the film just short of the Rs 100 crore mark on day one.

A Franchise Finale Built on Accumulated Trust

The film arrives as the third and reportedly final installment in a franchise that has steadily grown its audience with each release. The 2015 original opened with Rs 5.85 crore net in India before going on to earn around Rs 110.40 crore worldwide over its full run. Drishyam 2, released in 2022, opened at Rs 15.38 crore net. Drishyam: The Conclusion has already collected more than four times that figure on day one alone, and its worldwide opening-day gross is already approaching the lifetime total of the first film. That trajectory reflects how sequel-driven franchises in Hindi cinema increasingly front-load their commercial returns, with opening weekends carrying disproportionate weight compared to the slower theatrical rollouts of a decade ago.

Occupancy Patterns and What They Signal

Hindi 2D screenings recorded 67.08% overall occupancy, climbing steadily through the day: 46.38% in the morning, 70.15% in the afternoon, 75.31% in the evening, and 76.46% at night. This pattern, typical of word-of-mouth-driven thrillers, suggests the film benefited from both pre-release anticipation and same-day audience response rather than relying solely on advance bookings. Reported advance sales across eight show dates stood at Rs 79.71 crore including block seats, or Rs 67.79 crore excluding them, indicating strong but not overwhelming pre-commitment from audiences ahead of release.

Positioning Within Devgn's Career and the 2026 Box Office

The opening surpasses Devgn's previous best, Singham Again, which debuted at around Rs 43.70 crore net in India, ahead of Singham Returns at Rs 32.09 crore and Golmaal Again at Rs 30.14 crore. Within the broader 2026 Hindi box office, the film currently ranks second in opening-day collections, behind Dhurandhar 2, which recorded Rs 226.6 crore worldwide on its first day, including Rs 145.55 crore net in India. The comparison underscores how a handful of high-profile releases now account for an outsized share of annual theatrical revenue, a trend that shapes distribution strategy, screen allocation, and marketing spend across the industry.

The Story and Its Ensemble

The narrative returns to Vijay Salgaonkar years after he shielded his family from legal consequence. A renewed investigation, led by a new Crime Branch officer alongside a returning Meera Deshmukh, tests the defences he built in the earlier films. The cast includes Tabu, Shriya Saran, Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant, with Pathak directing from a script he co-wrote with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh. The first-look material had already signalled the franchise's enduring emotional anchor: a father's decisions in defence of his family, now reaching what the title frames as its conclusion.
